Aggregates Test

Aggregates form the fundamental building blocks of construction. These raw materials, including sand, gravel, and stone, are combined with binders like water, clay, and bitumen to create essential construction compounds such as Portland cement, plaster cement and bituminous concrete.

To ensure the quality and suitability of aggregates for various construction purposes a range of crucial tests are conducted:

a)   Crushing Test of Aggregate

This test is performed to evaluate the structural integrity and crushing strength of aggregates. The aggregate crushing value provides a comparative measure of their resistance to gradually applied crushing loads. For optimal performance, crushing values of ideally 30% for road and pavement projects and 45% for other construction works are aimed at this centre.

b)   Abrasion Test

Abrasion testing focuses on assessing the hardness of aggregates. This helps to determine their suitability for construction applications. The Los Angeles abrasion test is the preferred method for evaluating the abrasion resistance of aggregates.

c)   Impact Test

The impact test is conducted to determine the resistance of aggregates to sudden impact forces.
