Thiagarajar Polytechnic College (TPT), a Govt. Aided, Autonomous institution was established in 1958 and offers 12 diploma programmes of three year duration in various disciplines of engineering and technology. Sona College of Technology (SCT) was established in 1997 offering 12 undergraduate, 11 postgraduate, MCA, MBA, and Ph.D. programmes in all major disciplines. All eligible undergraduate programmes and the MBA are accredited by the National Board of Accreditation. SCT has earned an 'A' Grade from the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (2024-2029) with a 3.65 CCPA and is ranked among the top 200 institutions by the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF). It is also recognized by the UGC under sections 2(1) and 12(8) and holds ISO 9001:2015 certifications. Sona's 36 Advanced Research Centres, housed in a dedicated R&D block inaugurated by Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam in 2009, focus on cutting-edge Industry relevant innovation. SonaSPEED, one of these centres, has developed stepper motors for ISRO's Chandrayaan-3, autonomous RLV landing, and Gaganyaan missions, along with precision motors for the National Institute of Ocean Technology.
